Our Building's History
Where History Meets Craft - A Legacy Since 1828
A Tradition of Craftsmanship and Community
At the heart of our brewery and winery lies a rich history dating back to 1828. Originally a flour mill powered by the Miami & Erie Canal, the site has seen generations of craftsmanship, hard work, and community spirit.
1828: "A flour mill is established on the site."
1890: "Uriah and Eden Engleman purchase the mill and operate the Engleman Flour Company."
Early 1900s: "Peerless Waters joins the mill, producing Peerless Flour."
1938: "The mill closes and is torn down."
1929: "Peerless Pantry opens in the former saw mill and grain elevator building."
1950s: "Peerless Pantry evolves into the Peerless Mill Inn."
2003: "A devastating fire destroys the Peerless Mill Inn, but the spirit of the building endures."
2008: "The restaurant closes after facing competitive pressures."
2013: "Star City Brewing Company is born, breathing new life into the historic space."
2016: "Peerless Mill Winery is established to complement our beers, offering wines, hard ciders, and meads."
